Casa Mata
A modernist house held inside the Atlantic forest.
Warm wood and glass set back in the Mata Atlântica on the island of Florianópolis, the surf a few minutes downhill. Birdsong instead of traffic, a deck that opens straight into the canopy, and a lagoon nearby for the end of the day.
This corner of Florianópolis island sits deep in the Mata Atlântica, the Atlantic Forest. Forty-two beaches ring the island, the great Lagoa da Conceição lies at its centre, and the surf is a few minutes downhill from the trees.
The island runs on forest and water. Birdsong stands in for traffic under the canopy, the Costa da Lagoa trail climbs for hours through rainforest to a village you can reach only on foot or by boat, and the breaks at Joaquina and Praia Mole pull surfers from across Brazil, with sandboarding straight off the dunes.

Why people create here.
They call it Silicon Island. Florianópolis is one of the strongest startup ecosystems in Brazil, with thousands of technology companies, homegrown names like RD Station and Conta Azul, and up to ten times the startup density of São Paulo per person. It is a magnet for remote founders and builders, and the safest state capital in Brazil.
It is subtropical, warm and green, with no true dry season. Summers are hot and full, December to February. April, May, September and October are the calm months, the rain easing and the beaches emptying. Winters are mild, windy and quiet.

The vision at Casa Mata.
Casa Mata is a concept grounded in a real place. It shows the kind of home we want to bring into the collection, and it is not an active listing.
